Ontario-China soil remediation workshop

The combined Ontario Ministries of Research and Innovation (MRI); Economic Development, Employment and Infrastructure (MEDEI); and Citizenship, Immigration and International Trade (MCIIT) and the Ontario Government along with the Chinese Consulate in Toronto hosted a workshop on Ontario-China Soil Remediation on December 9, 2014 in Toronto.

The Workshop was attended by over 70 participants interested in learning about the Memorandum of Understanding between Ontario and China to explore the exchange of opportunities for Soil Remediation in China.

The Delegation from China wanted to gauge the interest and knowledge of Ontario based private remediation companies and researchers in soil remediation and brownfield development activities in China.  ONEIA membership was well represented with Pinnacle Environmental, Waterloo Biotechnology, Pinchin, Stantec, SGS Laboratories, Vertex Environmental, Kilmer Capital, and XCG Consultants Ltd. in attendance.

A presentation providing the strength of the ONEIA membership, collaboration activities and advocacy efforts was delivered to the Chinese Delegation.  Representatives of the Ontario Ministry of Environment and Climate Change also provided context into the regulatory environment for soil remediation and brownfield redevelopment in Ontario.
