ONEIA presents to standing committee about Bill 72: Water Opportunities Act
Alex Keen, chair of ONEIA's Water Subcommittee, and Alex Gill, the Association's executive director, appeared before the Standing Committee on General Government on October 18, 2010 to present our position on the Water Opportunities Act. Of specific concern to the Association are the provisions in the Act that will create a stand-alone corporation - called "Water TAP" - to encourage innovation in the sector. Such a measure could be very helpful to Ontario companies, Mr. Keen noted, but "only if we get it right the first time." Among ONEIA's positive suggestions on this file were that the governance of such a corporation should be strongly weighted towards business representation and that its focus could be modeled after the successful provincial-industry collaboration to market the province as a hub for financial services.
